JDK 10 Release Candidate Phase

Mark Reinhold's mailing list message "JDK 10 Release Candidate Phase: Process proposal" was posted today and opens with the sentence, "Per the JDK 10 schedule, we'll enter the Release Candidate Phase next week, on Thursday, 8 February." Reinhold proposes that the JDK 10 Release Candidate Phase be enacted in the same manner as the JDK 9 Release Candidate Phase and he provides a link to the (proposed) "JDK 10 Release-Candidate Phase" page. That page outlines the proposed processes associated with the JDK 10 Release Candidate Phase with specific focus on the level of bug fixes targeted for JDK 10. The bugs are categorized as P1 through P5 and once the JDK 10 Release Candidate Phase is entered, "all P2-P5 bugs must be left to future releases" and the focus will be on fixing "all P1 bugs that are new in JDK 10 and critical to the success of the release."

New JDK 11 Files Method isSameContent()

It has been proposed that a method named isSameContents() be added to the Files class in JDK 11 via JDK-8202285 ["(fs) Add a method to Files for comparing file contents"]. Proposed by Joe Wang , this new method is "intended to be an extension to the existing isSameFile method since it stopped short of comparing the content to answer the query for whether two files are equal." JDK-8201276 also references this method and describes it as "a utility method that compares two files." Regarding the usage of this new method, JDK-8202285 's Description states: Proposing a new Files method isSameContent . Files currently has a method called isSameFile that answers the query on whether or not two files are the same file. Since two files containing the same contents may also be viewed as the same, it is desirable to add a method that further compares the contents, that would make the "is same file" query complete. JDK 12 Javadoc Tag for System Properties

JDK 12 Early Access Build 20 ( 2018/11/15 ) is available and can be used to try out the new Javadoc tag {@systemProperty} . The new {@systemProperty} Javadoc tag is discussed in the core-libs-dev mailing list message " FYI: new javadoc tag to document system properties " and was introduced in response to JDK-5076751 ["System properties documentation needed in javadocs"]. The {@systemPropery} Javadoc tag displays its contents as normal text in its generated output and makes the contents available to the Javadoc search introduced with JDK 9 .
